This month, tens of millions of American families — including the families of 779,000 Oregon children — started to get the first of their automatic monthly Child Tax Credit payments.

Unfortunately, the prospect of cutting child poverty in half wasn't enough to win Cliff Bentz's support, as he and every single Republican in Congress voted against these Child Tax Credits and the American Rescue Plan.

These monthly Child Tax Credit payments will be a game-changer, and only happened thanks to the leadership of President Biden and Democrats across the country, and no thanks to Cliff Bentz or any Republican in Congress.

Bentz might be the elected representative for Oregon's 2nd Congressional District, but it's Democrats who are delivering results for Oregon families in Southern, Central, and Eastern Oregon:

An estimated 158,000 children in the 2nd District will benefit from the Expanded Child Tax Credits
Approximately 47,000 households in the 2nd District will receive benefits averaging $3,000 per family
The Expanded Child Tax Credits could lift more than 10,000 children in the 2nd District out of poverty

In 2021, for most families, the annual Child Tax Credit is increased to $3,000 for each child between 6 and 17 years old, and to $3,600 for each child under age 6. These payments are already making an impact for the more than 775,000 Oregon children whose families are eligible for the Child Tax Credit.

These Oregon and American families can thank Democrats for voting to pass the American Rescue Plan earlier this year. And we're not going to forget that not a single Republican — not even Cliff Bentz — voted for the bill.
