A disabled veteran in California named Tim shared this as he signed
veterans' letter telling senators to pass the For The People Act: "I am a
100% disabled Vietnam Vet. I have used mail-in votes for years. It is very
hard for me to walk. Please do not take away my vote."
[ [link removed] ]Support veterans and voting rights by signing onto the letter
here. (You don't have to be a veteran to sign.)
Many of America’s 4.7 million veterans with service-connected disabilities
can’t drive to a polling place, stand in line for long hours, or go to a
crowded or chaotic polling place. They are among millions of disabled
people who will have their right to vote taken away by Republican-run
state governments unless the Senate takes urgent action to guarantee early
voting, mail-in voting, and other protections that enable Americans to
vote.
Veterans are trusted messengers in our communities. They are a group that
many senators -- including Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema -- listen to.
Amplifying veterans’ message will put pressure on our elected officials
and help secure voting rights for all.
[ [link removed] ]John, will you join thousands of veterans and tens of
thousands of civilians telling senators to pass the For The People Act and
reform the filibuster to protect our democracy? Sign the veterans' letter
here.
As a veteran named Michael in Lewisville, TX signed the letter, he echoed
veterans across the country: "This assault on voting Rights is unAmerican.
It is against what I fought for."
Sylvia, a veteran in Maryland shared her personal story as she signed
about the obstacles she faces with voting in person on Election Day: "I am
a 100% disabled vet than can not stand for more than a couple of minutes.
Early voting helps me avoid crowds that would result in my not being able
to stand and wait long enough to vote."
And David, a veteran in New Mexico signed the letter, added this: "The
Vietnam War was difficult but I went twice. Please don't let them make it
difficult for me to vote."
Veterans served this country to protect and defend American democracy --
not to defend the Senate filibuster.

VETERANS' LETTER TO SENATORS

Millions of disabled people, including many military veterans, will
have their right to vote taken away by Republican-run state
governments unless the Senate takes urgent action to guarantee early
voting, mail-in voting, and other protections that enable Americans to
vote.

We urge senators to pass the For The People Act and to reform the
filibuster to get the job done of protecting America’s democracy.

Veterans served this country to protect and defend American democracy
-- not to defend the Senate filibuster.

All Americans deserve an equal voice in the elections that shape our
future.

But all across the country, Republican state voter suppression laws
hit veterans with disabilities particularly hard and threaten to
disenfranchise veterans from the democratic rights they sacrificed so
much to defend.

Many of America’s 4.7 million veterans with service-connected
disabilities can’t drive to a polling place, stand in line for long
hours, or go to a crowded or chaotic polling place.

Recent rulings show that this conservative Supreme Court won’t protect
the right to vote or stand up to the corrosive influence of dark money
on America’s democracy. This is why the Senate must take action, even
if it means ending the filibuster rule that no American took an oath
to protect and defend.
