Hi John,
It's hard to believe that 71% of young LGBTQ+ Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have seriously considered suicide, but it's true. And, sadly, that's not all.
According to a recent study by API Equality Northern California, AAPI youth are more likely to face discrimination at home, at work, and even in the doctor's office than any other member of the LGBTQ+ community.
These alarming trends can be tied directly to the nationwide right-wing lead surge in anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, which disproportionately affects the AAPI community. In 2021 alone, 350+ bills seeking to restrict LGBTQ+ rights across the board have been introduced in state legislatures and even the House of Representatives. The wildfire is so pervasive that some families are considering leaving their neighborhoods for more welcoming communities.
I'm sure you've noticed one of the glaring reasons this is happening. Far too many of our strongest AAPI voices lack the support they need to mount a bold defense. At ASPIRE, we're working to change that.
Can we count on you to help us change the script for AAPI LGBTQ+ youth?

We can beat back the mounting assault on all LGBTQ+ youth if we get the right resources in the right hands as soon as possible. Thank you for seeing that, and for protecting those who need our help.
