Hi John – Hard to believe, but this year of recovery is half over. At this milestone, I want to share some highlights of how champions for children like you have delivered for kids so far in 2021. You helped kick off the year by sending over 23,000 messages to Congress to pass the American Rescue Plan – and we did it! We were able to help prevent thousands of child care facilities from closing their doors, helped reduce child poverty by expanding child tax credits, and ensured millions of children were fed. Your advocacy helped reverse many of the terrible policies enacted by the Trump administration that targeted children and families seeking asylum at our southern border. We still have a long way to go until all kids seeking safety in country are treated with dignity and compassion, but with your support and a responsive partner in the Biden administration, we can continue to move in the right direction. Finally, you helped us increase funding and access to child nutrition programs. We are committed to making sure no child has to go to bed hungry, not knowing where their next meal will come from. Our teams of state volunteers have also achieved some amazing victories for kids across the country. In Washington State, they passed the Fair Start for Kids Act, which will now expand access to high-quality early childhood education and care programs for kids across the state. And in South Carolina, our advocates succeeded in expanding public preschool for all eligible 4-year-olds in the state. Every child in South Carolina can now have the opportunity for a bright future! This is all a warmup for our efforts to come in the second half of the year. We’re launching our #CareWanted campaign soon – a major push to keep the pressure on Congress to invest more in the critical child care industry. You can start today by sending a message to your members of Congress to make a once-in-a-generation investment in child care and early education for our kids! Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
