John,

Corporations can now continue to ignore the Equal Pay Act thanks to Senate Republicans.

Last month, the GOP shot down a bill that would have added to women's paychecks in every industry. That's because Mitch McConnell thinks fair pay is a demand from Democrats' “radical base” that progressive leaders are only heeding to “keep pace with woke social norms.” Every Senate Republican is forced to agree with McConnell, whose influence could make or break their careers.

Progressives believe in big-tent coalitions in which all Americans -- especially women -- have a place in the political system. We know that women in the Senate play an especially important role by keeping Mitch McConnell's sexist, self-serving GOP in check.

“Any senator who agrees that women deserve to be paid fairly for the work they do, and who wants our families to fully recover from the economic harm of this pandemic should have voted for this legislation,” Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), a champion of the bill, told POLITICO.

Republicans are crystal clear on this: “It's a no,” said Republican senator Mike Rounds.

But Murray said the GOP's rebuke will only “motivate women across the country to fight harder to get this bill done.” She added, “I'm one of them.”

While it should not be a partisan issue, progressives clearly have to fight hard for equal pay for women. What do you say?

Do you believe having women like Sen. Patty Murray in the Senate makes a difference?

YES   NO

Thank you for seeing through Mitch McConnell's sexist tactics and standing up for bold progressive women leaders when they need it most.
