Dear John,
In 2020, during a worldwide pandemic over 43,000 Americans were killed by gun violence. In Philadelphia, gun violence has gotten worse, since 2019 there has been roughly a 40% increase in fatal shootings.
Yet, Republicans and their NRA lobbyists have tried to block even simple legislation like HB1090, a bill I sponsored, that would make it illegal to bring a firearm into or near our court houses. I need your support to make sure that we elect leaders that care more about our safety than NRA money.
The NRA, many Republican lawmakers, and their allies have been staunchly against even simple common sense gun legislation that makes us all safer like finally declaring gun violence as a public health crisis. Pennsylvania has already declared cigarette smoking and car accidents as public health circuses, and we've seen impressive results. It's time we did the same with gun violence, so that we can finally see solutions other arming our kids with guns, being brought to the table.
