U.S. Supreme Court announces it will consider abortion for the first time in three years ([link removed][UNIQID])
(Life, Liberty, and Law) The U.S. Supreme Court has announced that it will consider Louisiana’s law requiring that abortion facilities to have admitting privileges at a local hospital. Catherine Glenn Foster, President & CEO of Americans United for Life joins Steven H. Aden, Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel from New Orleans for a special conversation on why the decision of the Supreme Court to consider Louisiana's case matters and what the impact of the Supreme Court's ruling could be for the human right to life.
Want better data? Support stronger abortion reporting requirements ([link removed][UNIQID])
(The Washington Examiner) However, to provide a comprehensive picture of abortion in the U.S., stronger federal abortion reporting standards are necessary. Better abortion reporting requirements should interest all parties in the abortion debate. Improved data on the incidence of abortion could reveal insights about the impact of various pro-life laws, contraception programs, and sex-education curricula. It could also provide better evidence about the health effects of legal abortion. Unfortunately, it does not appear that supporters of legal abortion will be running to the barricades to support this bill. As it currently stands, not one Democrat has cosponsored the legislation introduced by Cotton and Ernst. Pro-lifers may well be fighting this battle alone.
Why Abortion Foes Are Psyched About the New Supreme Court Case ([link removed][UNIQID])
(Vice) “The Supreme Court can address the viability of Roe v. Wade in any abortion case that comes before the court,” said Steve Aden, chief legal officer for the national anti-abortion organization Americans United for Life. He added, “At the very least we’ll get, I expect, quite a lot more clarity on where the court stands on abortion by the end of this term in June.”

Report: Assisted Suicide’s Threat to People with Disabilities ([link removed][UNIQID])
(National Review) People with disabilities see themselves targeted by the euthanasia movement, and indeed, note that that the reasons given for permitting terminally ill people to access lethal prescriptions — a limitation on access that is not shared in most other jurisdictions where euthanasia/assisted suicide are legal — deal with issues that people with disabilities face in their everyday lives. The idea — their fear — is that society is coming to accept the noxious idea that life with disabilities is not worth living.
Richard Doerflinger on suicide, equal protection, and the rights of patients ([link removed][UNIQID])
(Life, Liberty, and Law) Richard Doerflinger joins Tom Shakely and Alyssa Grasinski to speak on the advance of America's pro-suicide advocates over the course of Doerflinger's 36-year career at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in their Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities, and his recent Public Discourse piece, "Assisted Suicide: The Ethics, the Laws, and the Dangers." Richard is an Associate Scholar at the Charlotte Lozier Institute and a Fellow at the University of Notre Dame’s de Nicola Center for Ethics and Culture, and he writes a monthly syndicated column distributed by Catholic News Service. Richard and his wife Lee Ann are active members of Sacred Heart parish in La Conner, Washington.
Abortion tied to sharp decline in women's mental health ([link removed][UNIQID])
(CBS) A provocative new study shows that women who have an abortion face an increased risk for mental health problems including substance abuse, anxiety, and depression. "Results indicate quite consistently that abortion is associated with moderate to highly increased risks of psychological problems subsequent to the procedure," the authors wrote in the study, published in the September 1 issue of the British Journal of Psychiatry.
Remember, Planned Parenthood Is Just a Health-Care Group ([link removed][UNIQID])
(National Review) The announcement of this advertising campaign — while wholly unsurprising given Planned Parenthood’s past record of expending millions of dollars to assist Democratic candidates every election cycle — offers an occasion to recall that the group is not merely an anodyne women’s health-care provider, as its executives and defenders routinely insist.
