Nope, Trump Jr.’s claim is not based in fact. David Chipman has spent his life combating violent crime and striving to make America safer. He is a father, public servant, gun owner, and 25-year retired ATF agent. He knows exactly what needs to be done to properly oversee the gun industry and ensure our nation’s sensible gun laws are enforced – and that’s exactly why the NRA is pouring $2 million dollars into a misinformation campaign against his nomination. It’s crystal clear why the NRA doesn’t want the ATF to have a qualified leader like David Chipman: an unregulated and unchecked gun industry is good for their bottom line. We know from our own legal investigation that gun dealers that regularly — and dangerously — break the law are allowed to stay in business, with just mere slaps on the wrist. The result is endless cycles of illegal gun sales and gun trafficking and soaring rates of gun violence across the country. Meanwhile, David Chipman has the experience and qualifications to ensure the ATF does its job to keep Americans safe.
John, this is urgent. The Senate will vote on Chipman’s confirmation any day now. We need to make sure our senators hear our calls for safety over the NRA’s extremist lies! Please, time is running out: Will you urge your senators to support David Chipman?
Tell Your Senators: Don't Buy into NRA lies. Even if you’ve sent a message before, we need you to do it again. This is our FINAL chance to ensure our nation gets the leadership we need to tackle our gun violence epidemic. Thank you for fighting with us! Episode 139: How the Filibuster is Killing Us The filibuster is an instrument of partisan gridlock that lets a minority of senators halt progress — including lifesaving progress to prevent gun violence. We spoke to Stasha Rhodes of Just Democracy and Eli Zupnick of Fix Our Senate about what’s at stake and what activists can do now. Our Gun Violence Prevention Hero of the Week is James Santelle, former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin and Board Vice President of the Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort (WAVE) Educational Fund. This week, Santelle joined Brady Midwest Program Manager Anneliese Dickman to host a video presentation to educate Wisconsinites about the growing threat of so-called “Second Amendment sanctuary” resolutions within the state. As an expert attorney, Santelle underscored that while gun violence prevention laws don’t violate the Constitution, these reckless statutes do. These resolutions are putting lives at risk by spurring both confusion and compliance issues. Fortunately in Wisconsin, Gov. Tony Evers just vetoed the dangerous Second Amendment sanctuary bill that recently passed the state legislature. But we’re concerned about an attempt to override the veto. Wisconsinites should call their state legislators to let them know this bill puts public safety at risk. Kids are curious about everything, especially when it’s something that is brightly colored and looks like their favorite toy. But that didn’t stop a gun company from recklessly selling a Glock handgun made to resemble a children's Lego toy.
Every day in America, eight kids are unintentionally shot in instances of family fire — a shooting involving an improperly stored or misused gun found in the home. To prevent these tragedies, the gun industry must be held to higher standards for safety and responsible business practices.
