Dear John,
We are facing continued threats on our democracy, with rampant anti-voter laws, gerrymandering and recent SCOTUS rulings that continue to undermine our right to vote. As we reflect on the one-year anniversary of the passing of Rep. John Lewis, it’s clear that activism like his is urgently needed, and that we must continue to honor his legacy by following in his footsteps.
We can stop the corruption and rebuild our democracy, but we need Congress to act now to protect our sacred freedom to vote. They need to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and vote to finally make D.C. a state. We need to keep making “good trouble” and we can’t let anything, including the Jim Crow filibuster, stand in our way.
WHAT: “Good Trouble” Candlelight Vigil for Democracy
WHO: Guest speakers including faith, youth and political leaders
WHEN: Saturday, July 17th @ 8PM ET
WHERE: Black Lives Matter Plaza, Washington, D.C.
HOW: RSVP for the event here We’re showing up to demand democracy for the people and we hope you'll spread the word and join us. Thank you for your continued activism and support!
