Yesterday, most American families began receiving their first payments of the expanded Child Tax Credit. Nearly 90% of American families — that's 39 million households — will receive up to $300 per child each month through the end of the year. These payments are projected to slash the childhood poverty rate in our country nearly in half. This is a BIG deal!

It's hard to believe that every Republican in Congress voted against providing this support for American families, but they did — every single one of them. Democrats understand that America's working families could use the extra boost to help pay for rent, groceries, or school supplies. It’s shameful that Republicans voted unanimously to deny American families this help.

Despite Republicans’ obstruction, I will continue to fight on your behalf in Congress. We still must pass President Biden's American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan to create millions of good-paying jobs, combat the climate crisis, make investments in education and child care, and extend this Child Tax Credit beyond this year.

Yesterday's payments prove that all of our hard work to elect President Biden and Democrats in Congress mattered. Together, we're building a strong recovery from the pandemic that will lift up every American. Thank you for all of your support!
