Victory! TikTok Takes Fighting Exploitation Seriously with New Updates

Recently, TikTok announced enhanced technology to identify and automatically remove videos showing nudity, sexual activity, or threatening minor safety before they are uploaded to the platform.

This policy is likely to dramatically reduce the number of people (including minors) subjected to sexually explicit material.

Yet again, TikTok moves the needle on what can and should be expected of Big Tech.

For Kids' Sake: Big Tech Must Default to Safety

A must-read blog by NCOSE's Lina Nealon, director of corporate and strategic initiatives. In it, she unpacks the times and trials of life as a parent shepherding children through the world of virtual schooling—an often frustrating endeavor exacerbated by her children being given unprotected technology.

"Why? Why can’t Big Tech make it easier for parents, caregivers, and educators to keep kids safe?

We’re not asking Big Tech to do our jobs for us—but to help us out and take accountability to mitigate the many, severe risks their products expose children to.

It felt abundantly clear to me that Google and other tech companies must have done some malicious math and determined that prioritizing kids’ safety wasn’t as profitable."
