The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

This week, a whole lot of nothing was accomplished on Capitol Hill except for more performative nonsense by the Democrat Party. President Biden stopped by to waste time chumming it up with Senate Democrats over their socialist “infrastructure” plan. Democrat state legislators from Texas showed up to DC on a private charter plane to avoid voting on election integrity legislation and to shirk their government responsibilities. Yet, as Washington churns along slowly, the fight to restore sensible solutions continues. Keep reading below to see several important happenings from this week.

Border Visit

I’ll save you the details about the border crisis, because at this point, I think everyone knows how bad the circumstances are at the southern border and how little the Biden administration cares. I took a trip to McAllen, Texas to be briefed on the latest by CBP and community members. Spoiler alert, the Biden Border Crisis has gotten progressively worse, with nearly 190,000 illegal border encounters happening this past June. Check out the pictures from my trip below:

Letter to President Biden Regarding Airstrikes on Iraq-Syria Border

I co-authored a letter with my Democratic colleague and co-Chair of the War Powers Caucus, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, to President Biden expressing constitutional concerns about his decision to conduct offensive airstrikes on the Iraq-Syria border. The authority to declare war solely rests in Congress, and the Biden administration failed to brief and consult this congressional body before carrying out consequential airstrikes. Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terror, and Homeland Security

The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security met for a hearing titled, "Facial Recognition Technology: Examining Its Use by Law Enforcement." Facial recognition technology poses a very real and dangerous threat to civil liberties. I was pleased to see bipartisan concern on this matter and look forward to working with all of my colleagues on the issue moving forward. Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship

The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship met for another hearing titled, “Oh, Canada! How Outdated U.S. Immigration Policies Push Top Talent to Other Countries.” American companies have taken advantage of our immigration policies to push out American workers and hire foreign labor at a lower cost. Listen to my remarks and questions:

Letter to HHS Secretary Becerra Regarding Proposed Rule Permitting Title X Funding for Abortion Providers

Along with 24 of my colleagues, I sent a letter to HHS Secretary Becerra calling for the rescission of the Biden Administration's proposed rule to allow federal funds to go to programs that include abortion as a method of family planning. Click below to read the letter:

What’s the Biggs Idea? Podcast

Andy Ngo, Editor-at-large for The Post Millennial, joined me on my podcast to discuss his experience covering Antifa, misconceptions both the Right and Left have, and even his recent assault. He is the author of Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy, a book which chronicles the rise of Antifa and includes inside stories from ex-members. My conversation with Andy was eye-opening and it was a pleasure having him on the podcast. Click on the graphic below to listen in:

Introducing the Travel Mask Mandate Repeal Act

Today, I introduced the House companion legislation to Senator Rand Paul’s Travel Mask Mandate Repeal Act of 2021. The bill prohibits the imposition of mask mandates on public transportation by the federal government. There is no scientific evidence for the continuation of mask mandates on public transportation. Bottom line, mask mandates are old news, and are only being kept in place by those who relish controlling our day-to-day lives. The viral spread is collapsing and our normal lives are returning. It's time for the CDC to follow the science and end the tyrannical COVID-19 restrictions once and for all. Click below to read about the legislation:

God Bless Our Veterans

This week, my staff was honored to assist the Mesa Chamber and the community in giving away a car to a veteran family who's previous SUV was stolen and totaled. I’m grateful for the sacrifices made by our military service members and their families every day. Check out the photos below:

ICYMI: Speaking at CPAC on 2A

I was invited to speak at the CPAC event hosted in Dallas, Texas to share my passion for gun rights and to rally support in defense of them. Protecting our God-given Second Amendment rights is more important than ever. The right to bear arms is essential to the safety of all Americans.
