Dear neighbor,

Thanks to the American Rescue Plan that Congress passed and President Biden signed into law, Child Tax Credit payments are starting to hit the bank accounts of hardworking families across America. House Democrats worked with President Biden to expand the Child Tax Credit and help families make ends meet. Most American families will automatically receive monthly payments (via direct deposit or mail) of up to $250/child between the ages of 6-17 or up to $300/child under the age of 6 through the end of the year. Find out more by watching the video below and visiting childtaxcredit.gov.

I’m also pleased to announce that ten local community funding projects I requested have been included in the Fiscal Year 2022 House appropriations bills. The inclusion of this funding in the Appropriations Committee draft bills is an essential first step in the funding process. If signed into law, this will result in more than $10 million in federal funding being allocated for key community projects in CA-33, including millions for homelessness programs and regional community projects. I came to Congress to fight for the needs of our district, and I’ll continue to work to ensure we get the federal funding we need to make our community stronger.

This week, in addition to securing funding for projects to address homelessness in the House appropriations bills, I also introduced legislation with Senators Feinstein and Padilla to provide $1 billion in grants to help local governments combat homelessness. Our bill will help break the cycle of homelessness that impacts so many people in Los Angeles and elsewhere by offering not only housing but also comprehensive supportive services like mental health care, substance abuse treatment and job training.
