The Latest Research, Commentary, And News From Health Affairs

Dear John,

In the July issue, Elizabeth Ackert and coauthors investigated the
health care contexts for Latinx immigrant communities in the US.

Latinx Immigrant Communities' Health Landscapes

The areas where Latinx immigrants settle in the US have changed over
time, influencing access to quality health care.

In a paper featured in the July issue, Elizabeth Ackert and coauthors
investigated the health care contexts for US Latinx communities

based on their histories as either new or established Latinx
destinations.

They found that in established destinations, health professional
shortages were more common and higher percentages of children and adults
were without health insurance than in new Latinx destinations. However,
new Latinx destinations had fewer federal, community, and rural health
centers per 100,000 residents than established destinations.

Today on Health Affairs Blog, Sorcha Brophy and Veena Sriram discuss how
physicians can push their professional associations to confront systemic
racism
.
