Did you see ProPublica's report about billionaires avoiding federal income taxes?

ProPublica, a non-profit news agency, obtained IRS data that showed how some of the wealthiest individuals in America have avoided paying federal income tax. Unlike most hard-working Americans, those at the top have not paid their fair share -- and they've been doing it for years.

Here's an example: the median American household earns around $70,000 and pays 14% in federal income tax. On the other hand, Jeff Bezos aka, the richest man in the world, paid $0 in federal income tax in multiple tax filings. But it wasn't just Jeff Bezos. He joins a long list of millionaires and billionaires who manipulate our tax system.

The American tax system is broken because for years politicians like Mike Garcia have prioritized passing policies that would help their wealthy donors instead of policies that would empower their constituents.

We need a leader like Christy Smith to be a voice for everyone in CA-25, not just those with deep pockets. Despite the Republican propaganda that advocates for tax cuts for the wealthiest of Americans, this report highlights how broken our current tax system really is. Mike Garcia and his friends in Congress have no plans to change the status quo. Their tax policies of a trickle-down economy, where the wealthiest pay no taxes has never worked.
