Hi John,
If you haven't seen us pulling on every alarm this month, you might have missed news of violent and hateful groups like the Proud Boys and QAnon organizing to run for state and local office.
It's a scary thought, especially for us, because we know how powerful this strategy is for securing political power -- it's our primary theory of change! We won't sit by while white supremacists and conspiracy theorists work to build credibility and political infrastructure.
To stop them, we need to continue our critical work of recruiting, training, supporting, and electing diverse, young progressives to state and local office.
Here's where you come in: We've got thousands of diverse, young progressives who've said they're thinking about running. Before they face off against QAnon or the Proud Boys, these future candidates need a sounding board -- someone who can help them reflect on their values, capacity, and aspirations so they can get more specific about what they want to run for.
We need good progressive activists to volunteer and help move folks in our candidate pipeline from interested recruits to determined candidates. Will you join the volunteer program? I guarantee it's one of the most uplifting volunteer opportunities out there.
This isn't your standard volunteer operation with a campaign (though those are important too!) -- we want you to chat with potential candidates and see where they're at in their political journey. No previous political experience necessary, just you and a kind ear.
You get to pick your own hours and who you'll talk to. You might chat about what issues are closest to their heart, what motivated them to consider running, or who they'll rely on in their network during tough days on the trail.
The best part? Anyone from any background can help out! Our volunteer team currently includes high school and college students, teachers, spiritual leaders, a thoracic surgeon, and an artist.
You'll be getting valuable experience working with future candidates, and it's so rewarding to join them on their journey!
With hate and conspiracy groups seeking to replicate our work, we need your help now as much as ever, to prepare diverse, young progressives to Run for Something. Will you become a volunteer?
Thank you,
Leslie Hauser
