DeSantis sells ‘Don’t Fauci My Florida’ merchandise as new coronavirus cases near highest in nation
— The Washington Post
While Florida records some of the highest new COVID infections, hospitalizations, and deaths per capita in the country, Governor Ron DeSantis is busy spreading malicious anti-vaccine rhetoric and peddling merchandise mocking Dr. Anthony Fauci for his efforts to protect Americans from new outbreaks of the virus — which are overwhelmingly impacting those who are unvaccinated.
Instead of listening to the guidance of our nation’s top leader in infectious disease research, DeSantis is making anti-vax quackery one of his central political themes and selling campaign T-shirts saying “DON’T FAUCI MY FLORIDA” to support his 2022 re-election campaign.
DeSantis’ blatant disregard for science, public health and his duty to Floridians is more than irresponsible, it’s disgraceful and dangerous — and under any normal circumstances should disqualify him from public office.
But Republicans are still living in the Trump dystopia and, sadly, we can expect actions like this to continue to come out of the GOP until they move back closer to the real world. In the meantime we need to fight to keep the folks touting this dangerous misinformation and taking their cues from Donald Trump and Fox News from being in positions of influence.
