For years, I’ve travelled to every corner of our state and met with parents from different backgrounds with similar stories. No matter what they do or how many jobs they work, they can’t afford housing, health care, early childhood education, child care, and more. Folks can’t get their kids out of poverty and fear for their kids’ futures.

As a father, I know what it feels like to want more for your kids, and as a senator, I know this is a policy failure. I’ve advocated for years to expand the Child Tax Credit — and yesterday the first monthly checks began hitting bank accounts.

For the past four decades, our economy has worked really well for the top 10%, but left nine out of ten Americans behind. Here’s how the expanded Child Tax Credit addresses that:

  • We’re boosting the incomes of 96% of Colorado families to help cover the growing cost of raising children.
  • We're cutting child poverty nearly in half nationwide and pulling 57,000 Colorado kids out of poverty.
  • We’re lifting up poor children across all races and regions. Experts project we could move an estimated 4.1 million Latinx kids and 441,000 Asian American kids above or closer to the poverty line and cut the child poverty rate by 52% for Black American children and 61% for Native American kids.

This policy will transform the next generation. I consider it a first step and I aim to make it permanent. We couldn’t send checks to parents nationwide without the support of people like you who helped Democrats take back the Senate and the White House last year. You helped us get this done.

I will continue to fight for our families and I hope you will continue your support of my re-election campaign, which is why I have to ask: Will you donate $3 — or whatever you can afford — to my re-election campaign? Our movement to strengthen the next generation is powered by grassroots supporters like you.

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

Thank you and talk soon,

Michael

P.S. I’m running a re-election campaign powered by grassroots supporters like you. I’m not taking a cent from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists because I work for the people of Colorado, not corporate special interests. Pitch in $3 — or however much makes sense for you — to my re-election campaign so we can continue the fight.
