End fossil fuel advertising and climate misinformation on social media!

Google, Facebook, and Tiktok generated ad sales worth over $290 billion in
2020.

Google and Facebook alone made $219 billion, or 34 percent of the total
advertising market.

The advertising platform that these companies manage are significant
drivers of public opinion and for Big Oil companies, like Exxon Mobil,
provide an excellent microphone for them to greenwash their image and
prevent further action on climate change.

Big Oil significantly alters the public debate on climate change by
advertising on social media and big tech websites.

But there is no reason why they should be allowed to, especially since
there is a precedent for big tech companies to ban ads from harmful
industries already.

Social media companies have already banned tobacco advertisements because
of the damage they do to public health… But even though recent
peer-reviewed research on fossil fuel air pollution found that it kills
one in five people globally, there is no such ban in place for Big Oil
companies.

Let's change that!

Emissions from fossil fuels are the leading cause of preventable deaths
worldwide, with children, the elderly, those living in poverty, and people
of color feeling the worst impacts of it.

That's why when fossil fuel companies run uplifting ads on the worlds
leading advertising companies to influence the debate and block climate
action, we must fight back.

The fossil fuel industry will do whatever it takes to maintain the status
quo and deny future generations a livable planet.

Any company that allows them to continue advertising on their platform is
displaying a huge failure of leadership... we must make them act. We
cannot allow them to advertise on the world's biggest platforms any
longer.
