1. NC VALUES: Urge the General Assembly to Override Governor Cooper's HB453 veto
Earlier this month we shared with you the unfortunate news that on Friday Governor Cooper decided to veto the Human Life Nondiscrimination Act (HB453).
No one deserves to be discriminated against because of his or her race or disability. This is especially true of unborn children who are being marked for death just because someone has determined that they are the wrong race or have the potential or confirmed diagnosis of Down syndrome.

2. CAROLINA JOURNAL: Berger says he will combat Critical Race Theory ‘with everything that I have …’
"They seek to replace the existing order with a new order, one that preaches “the only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination,” and that everything we see and do boils down to race and a racial hierarchy – the intersection of race and power."
"Parents who see the same doctrinal rhetoric appearing in their children’s school materials or their district’s website (“intersectionality,” “whiteness,” “antiracist,”) are showing up at school board meetings and calling their legislators. They’re concerned that their children might be inculcated with a radical new way of viewing the world.

3. CAROLINA JOURNAL: Cooper vetoes at a record high reshaping political strategy
"Gov. Roy Cooper has vetoed more legislation than all other North Carolina governors combined. With the past three vetoes stamped over the past three weeks, Cooper’s total comes to 57 vetoes, and the session isn’t over."

4. JOCO REPORT: Democrats’ N.C. Supreme Court Majority On The Line With Two Seats Up In ’22
"N.C. Appeals Court Judge Lucy Inman is aggressively campaigning for a seat on the state Supreme Court. Inman announced her intentions shortly after being defeated by fellow Court of Appeals Judge Phil Berger Jr. in 2020 for an open seat on the state’s highest court. Berger defeated Inman 51% to 49%, a margin of 71,517 votes.
After losing such a close race, it is not surprising that the Democrat Inman would throw her hat in the ring again. It’s somewhat unusual because the two seats up for election in 2022 are currently held by Democrats.
Democratic Associate Justice Sam Ervin IV must defend his seat in 2022, and he has already announced plans to run again."

5. NARAL: Pro-Choice organization NARAL votes to eliminate North Carolina chapter
"On June 28, NARAL Pro-Choice America’s board of directors voted to fully nationalize the organization, by eliminating all 11 independent state affiliate organizations, including NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina—a major change in the 50-year structure of the organization. We are disappointed by this decision, especially as it was made without our input and against our recommendation. We are troubled that a new DC-concentrated restructure will not leverage the success of state-based organizations like NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina, who has worked with our trusted partners to defend abortion access and reproductive freedom in North Carolina to defeat the anti-abortion SB 359 in 2019, keep abortion clinics open, and challenge state and local funding for anti-abortion fake clinics."

WEEKLY PRAYER: FAMILY
LORD, we cry out to you as Father. You are a model of the love, mercy, and authority of the perfect parent. We thank you for modeling for us what every parent should strive for, and for creating this wonderful institution called family.
LORD, we thank you for creating us with a basic nature designed to not be alone. You made us to desire the intimacy of relationships, and it is here where we experience joys indescribable: the joys of marriage, the joys of having children; the joys of seeing our children have children. What a blessing and mercy you gave us in the family! In it we find our first teachers, our first guardians, and our first authorities.
LORD, we recognize how deeply you love your children, and how deeply it pains you when they go astray. Alongside our adoration and thanksgiving, we pray in confession--as individuals and as members of larger communities--over any sins we may have committed that undermine your beloved institution. Forgive us when we endanger your institution through selfishness and arrogance. Forgive our communities and nation for attempting to redefine some of the most basic and deepest parts of being human--being made male and female, having lifelong marriage vows and responsibilities, and having parental rights over educating one's children.
"Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." (Colossians 3:12-17)
