This
week: Kraninger gives CFPB update as Congress returns
After a two-week
recess, the House and Senate are back in session today. NAFCU will continue its
advocacy efforts on a number of key credit union issues, including the FY 2020
National Defense Authorization Act, and CFPB Director Kathy Kraninger will provide
an update on the bureau's efforts to the House Financial Services Committee
and Senate Banking Committee Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

NAFCU's
most recent Economic & CU Monitor report revealed that credit unions are more
concerned about cyber risks in recent years and the issue receives heightened
focus in October, which is recognized as National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
The National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) has a variety of resources
available to help credit unions effectively address cyber threats.
NAFCU
to CFPB: Stop collecting overly-burdensome HMDA data
Highlighting that
member credit unions' compliance costs related to Home Mortgage Disclosure
Act (HMDA) data collection have risen 121 percent in less than a decade, NAFCU's
Kaley Schafer offered suggestions to make compliance less burdensome – primarily
by eliminating data points that do not ultimately support HMDA's goals.
