Friends,
Between the Republicans’ voter suppression antics and the gerrymandered maps we expect to see from Greg Abbott and his cronies, the stakes in the upcoming midterm elections in Texas have never been higher.
With so much going on, many friends and neighbors have asked if I plan to run for Congress again in the 24th Congressional District. My family and I have not made a decision about running yet. But I wanted to shed some light on a few of the factors that will play a role in what we decide:
Last November, we came closer than any Democrat in a competitive Texas district to flipping a Republican-held seat. But what was so important to me was how we did it. No one expected that a working mother of two -- who grew up experiencing homelessness -- would get as far as I did in this race.
It was just over a year ago now that I first
shared my story with the people of Texas. I’m just as humbled today as I was then that tens of thousands across our community chipped in, volunteered, or cast their ballots for my campaign.
The truth is running for Congress has always been about serving the people of this community. This will not be a decision I make lightly, but in the meantime I’m committed to supporting the Democrats who broke quorum and are standing up to Governor Greg Abbott and the GOP's push for harmful voter suppression bills.
There are many deserving Texans, but I'd like to highlight three who are working particularly hard in the Dallas area:
Jasmine Crockett, Rhetta Bowers, and
Carl Sherman Sr. They've spent their careers fighting for our most vulnerable Texans, and now they need our help to keep their staff working to defend our democracy.
These Democrats in the state legislature need our support more than ever. So today I am asking you to split a donation directly to these Texas Democrats in the fight against voter suppression.
Thank you, I’ll be in touch soon.
Candace
