Ask Congress to Put an End to Large Factory Farms!

Dear John,

Each year, over 9 billion farm animals are slaughtered in the United States for food. The vast majority of these animals are raised in concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs)--conventional, industrial agriculture facilities often referred to as "factory farms." In CAFOs, animals are treated as production units rather than living, sentient beings. They are intensively confined by the thousands; unable to access the outdoors or exhibit natural behaviors; and subjected to painful mutilations, such as tail docking, dehorning, and beak trimming to prevent them from injuring themselves or others due to stress and frustration. Overall, about 85 percent of the animals slaughtered for food in the United States are raised on these low-welfare factory farms.

This must change. The Farm System Reform Act (H.R. 4421/S. 2332), reintroduced by Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), would phase out the largest factory farms and provide opportunities for farmers to transition to higher welfare farming or crop production.

What You Can Do
We need your help to attract additional support for the Farm System Reform Act in Congress. Please ask your US representative and senators ([link removed]) to cosponsor this bill. Then share this alert with family, friends, and co-workers, and encourage them to take action, too.

As always, thank you very much for your help!

Sincerely,

Cathy Liss
President
