School Nurse Tip Sheet: Implementing Physical Activity, Physical Education, and Health Education
As students go back to in-person learning, it is important to emphasize physical and health education. Kaiser Permanente has collaborated with over 30 national school health organizations to create the “Planning for the Next Normal at School: Keeping students, staff, and families safe and healthy” playbook, which provides evidence-based guidance to adapt to school life after the COVID-19 pandemic. This tip sheet suggests ways school nurses can work to get students moving and staying healthy.

In Memoriam: Martha Rich
NASN honors the life of Martha Rich. On July 7, 2021, Martha Rich died at the ageof 98. As President of the National Education Association Department of School Nurses (1976-1977), Martha Rich promoted quality school nursing and helped establish the National Association of School Nurses as a separate nonprofit membership association. She began her school nurse career in Massachusetts, helped found the Massachusetts School Nurse Organization, and served as its first president.

"COVID-19 Conversations" Webinar Series
The American Public Health Association's "COVID-19 Conversations" series of rapid-response webinars from the National Academy of Medicine and the American Public Health Association is addressing the state of the science on COVID-19 and exploring emerging evidence on how to best mitigate its impact. All webinars will be recorded and posted on the APHA website.
Vaccine Confidence Among Healthcare Professionals and Local Vaccine Rollout
Learn ways to increase vaccine confidence among healthcare professionals and how two counties launched COVID-19 vaccination efforts, and earn free CE through this CDC-sponsored webinar:

  • New CDC Guidance for K-12 Schools: Strategies to reduce the spread on COVID-19 in schools and maintain safe operations includes an updated science brief for the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in schools.
  • COVID-19 and Vaccination. Answering Parent Questions. There is a pre-recorded webinar and resources for school nurses to share information with caregivers regarding COVID-19 vaccines for the 12 years and older population.
  • CDC COVID-19 Viral Testing Tool is an interactive web tool designed to help both healthcare providers and individuals understand COVID-19 testing options.

Build Skills to Address Adolescent Sexual Health Needs
Advocates for Youth knows that clinicians often face challenges meeting the sexual health needs of their adolescent patients. They recently released Virtual PD, a simulated environment (classroom, health care exam room, and office) where professionals can practice with youth avatars using short scenarios and support from an instructional coach, so they can quickly learn and master the skills they need to be effective. ANA Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Series: ANA IPC Fundamentals ECHO
ANA is offering an IPC fundamentals ECHO to serve as a forum for nurses to increase their knowledge, skills and self efficacy around IPC practices through the lens of COVID-19, helping to grow IPC knowledge networks. Nurses will have an opportunity to share their experiences by presenting scenarios for discussion with other nurse participants and experts including infection preventionists and others from APIC, CDC, AACN, and more while earning CNE.There is no cost to participate in this eight-session series.
