Once again, Alaska’s Bristol Bay salmon fishery continues to break records. Yet even as Bristol Bay fishers work hard to feed the world, Northern Dynasty CEO Ron Thiessen continues to assure investors in the toxic Pebble Mine that the Pebble Partnership has “by no means given up on this project.” This week, the Bristol Bay Defense Fund—our joint campaign with Alaskan Tribes, fishermen, and conservation groups—launched our “Finish the Job” campaign to make it clear to the Biden Administration that when it comes to protecting Bristol Bay, we can’t afford to wait.

The strong overlap between salmon ecosystems and priority lands for carbon sequestration offers an opportunity for new land-based strategies to stop climate change. With our colleagues at Ecotrust, we’re mapping the North Pacific for a clearer picture of the most important lands for carbon storage. Our goal is to provide policymakers, the philanthropic community, and the carbon finance sector with hard evidence of the clear climate benefits of keeping salmon strongholds intact.

Oregon Forests Update: Capitol Rundown, New "Protect the Tillamook" Campaign
Oregon’s 2021 legislative session began with high hopes for forest reform. Instead, the timber industry scored a tax holiday and legislators passed on fixing the troubled Oregon Forest Resources Institute. But make no mistake, these issues will be back. In other hopeful news, Oregonians will have a chance to weigh in on a conservation plan for the Tillamook Rainforest in the coming months. We're launching our Protect the Tillamook campaign to build public momentum to protect this special place.
