This is a historic day, John,

The expanded Child Tax Credit payments go out today, providing millions of families with much-needed relief with checks of up to $300 per child -- helping to cut child poverty nearly in half.

This is great progress, but we need to make sure we're supporting working families and rebuilding the middle class all year round.

That's why I'm working with Democrats in Congress to continue these benefits -- to ensure every family has what they need to thrive. You can watch our new video about the Child Tax Credit here, and then sign our petition to make the Child Tax Credit expansion permanent.

The Child Tax Credit provides cash that you can use to help raise your family. It could be used towards paying your rent in our expensive housing market, buying healthy food to put on the table, or even something as simple as purchasing diapers, which nearly one in four King County families struggle to afford.

And the most exciting news is that parents don't have to do anything to claim these expanded payments. If you filed your 2019 or 2020 taxes, you'll automatically receive them if you qualify.

This is a landmark piece of legislation that I have long championed for it's effectiveness at reducing child poverty and providing support for tens of millions of children and families. Now, let's make it permanent.
