Friend, that tragic day started off as a day of love. It was Valentine's Day, and my friends gave each other heart-shaped chocolates and teddy bears to celebrate.

But everything changed in an instant. It was fourth period at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, and I was in English class. We were finishing up our essays when I heard it: BANG! BANG! BANG!

I scrambled to find cover and tried not to panic as I resorted to my only option: the front of my teacher’s desk. There, I found a classmate with a bullet wound who started coughing up blood. A few minutes after that, another classmate crawled over in utter pain. He was shot in his shoulder, arm and stomach.

One of my best friends, Alaina Petty, was behind me, hiding behind the desk. She didn't make it. Not a single second goes by where I don’t think about her and dread the truth that I’m never seeing her again.

Alaina was one of 17 of my classmates and teachers murdered that day. For students like me who made it out alive, we arrived at school as children that morning, but by the afternoon, we were survivors of war.

Tragedies like these will continue to happen if we don't make our voices heard and demand that the politicians in power take action to protect us from our country's gun violence epidemic. That's why I'm working alongside BAWN to prevent the next mass shooting and save lives – and I need your help.

The NRA is spending millions of dollars to put President Biden's proposed gun reform agenda to a complete halt. We need to fight back, but we can't do that if we don't hit our $20,000 goal – and we're still behind with hours before our midnight deadline.

Will you donate $5 now to help us reach our $20,000 mid-month goal by midnight? Every contribution will help us ban assault weapons and prevent kids like me from having to experience the horror of a mass shooting at their school.

No person should ever have to see what I saw that day, especially a child. With your help, we can finally take meaningful action to prevent gun violence.

Thank you,
