Friend,
Starting today, 39 million families across the country will start to receive direct payments thanks to the new Child Tax Credit that Congress passed as part of the American Rescue Plan.
These are monthly checks of up to $300 per child to help parents cover the cost of food, rent, child care or simply saving for college. That kind of support will go a long way for most families I know. In fact, researchers estimate it will cut child poverty in half. And it’ll help parents get back to work, which is a boost to our economy, too.
Get this: Not a single Republican voted for this life-changing policy.
That’s why the other side spends so much time pretending to be outraged by Dr. Seuss or the latest college curriculum or whatever the talking heads on Fox News are mad about today. They know when it comes to actually governing and doing the work that helps improve people’s lives, they’ve got nothing.
Winning the 2022 midterms won’t be easy. Republicans hold a lot of advantages. But the way we defy the odds is by showing our work — painting a stark contrast between what Republicans do when they’re in charge and what Democrats do when we’re in charge.
Our mission in the next year is holding Republicans accountable for their roles in the January 6th attack, but we’re not just going to yell about how they betrayed their oath of office and inspired a deadly riot. (Don’t worry; we’ll do that, too.) We’re going to show how they’re failing their constituents by focusing on election conspiracy theories instead of policies that help make life better for folks who are trying to get back on track after a year lost to a pandemic.
If you want to help do that, chip in to support our mission for the midterms and let’s go fight for Democratic majorities.
And while you’re at it, spread the word to parents you know about the new Child Tax Credit and make sure they know there’s help on the way.
Thanks,
Amy
