Dear John,
As your Mayor, I implement solutions to the most pressing issues of our time. Whether it’s housing, education, public safety or wealth and income inequality, Mayors don't have the luxury to insist upon rigid ideology.
I participated in a recent interview with NewDEAL CEO Debbie Cox Bultan on the “An Honorable Profession” podcast which hosts Democratic leaders in all levels of government. During our time together, we covered a wide range of topics that our team is actively working on to preserve Providence as one of the best mid-sized cities in the country.
As I discussed on the podcast, my story is the story of many Rhode Islanders. My family came to Providence pursuing the American Dream during a time when there were many job opportunities in factories. After I barely graduated high school and got rejected from every college I applied to, I attended CCRI and was then accepted to URI through the Talent Development Program. As you know, my educational and professional journey did not end there. Later on, after receiving a devastating phone call about the murder of my good friend growing up, I came back to Providence to serve my community. It is my goal to help others have the same opportunities I was offered when my future was uncertain.
Whether serving as a Housing Court Judge or as Mayor, I have done what I believe is in the best interest for our city. Through comprehensive housing approaches, reforming public safety as a prevention-first model or investing in new modern infrastructure for our schools, our City is leading the way.
The people of Providence always had my back. This is the community which supported me when I was young and gave me my opportunities to succeed. It has been such a great honor to serve as your Mayor.
Help us keep our campaign infrastructure active in Providence by pitching in if you can. Your support is greatly appreciated and I hope to continue to make you proud and serve to the best of my ability.
Best regards,
Jorge Elorza
