With America emerging from more than a year and a half under lockdown,
demand for access to nature has never been higher. Data from our
friends at Airbnb shows nearly all the top destinations on its
platform are jumping-off points to outdoor recreation opportunities.
With crowds flocking to the most popular places, here are ten

This map shows the power of speaking up for public lands

Our supporters helped save the nation's most important source of
federal funding for parks: the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Check
out this interactive map to see (almost) everywhere this program has
been put to use ... and pat yourself on the back for being a crucial
part of the mission to ensure future generations have access to the
country's natural wonders.

Atlanta's newest park is ready for prime time

In 2002, a storm lashed Atlanta with days of heavy rain, flooding
hundreds of homes on the city's west side. In the aftermath, we
teamed up with the community and the City of Atlanta to create a new
park that will strengthen the neighborhood while preventing future
disasters. Read Atlanta journalist Tianna Faulkner's
investigation of the story behind the new Cook Park.

Why Outside Matters

Being outside matters to me because it gives me a way to connect with
the very systems of creatures, plants, fungi, and more that support
me.

Tell us why being outside matters to you for a chance to have your
quote featured in a future newsletter. We'll also give away a Trust
for Public Land water bottle to one randomly selected entry.

Using open space to benefit New Hampshire communities

Our latest study shows that community forests provide a multitude of
direct benefits to local communities. The future 1,172-acre Dundee
Community Forest in Bartlett and Jackson, New Hampshire, will be
emblematic of the diverse community benefits related to timber,
trails, scenery, flood resilience, and protection of drinking water
that this study demonstrates community forests provide.

Your monthly gift can protect more parks and public lands

Winning guaranteed, full, and permanent funding for the Land and Water
Conservation Fund was a major victory for our parks and public lands
... and it's all thanks to support from people like you! But
we still have work to do. You can help create more parks and protect
land by joining our Monthly Giving Society to sustain the fight for
public land year-round.
