During the first impeachment, we chose our words about Donald Trump carefully, knowing that history would be our judge. We said it for the Senate and the world to hear:

"He has compromised our elections, and he will do so again. You will not change him. You cannot constrain him. He is who he is. Truth matters little to him. What's right matters even less, and decency matters not at all."

Tragically, this was all too prophetic. Trump did not learn his lesson, as some Republicans said he would.

He continues to lie about our elections. He has not changed. He has not been humbled by defeat. He is more unhinged than ever before. He is who he is. Truth still matters little to him. And he has no decency.

Trump showcased his depravity this weekend at CPAC. He actually bragged about not changing. Even after two impeachments, he proudly declared that he didn’t change — "I became worse."

Then he went back to the classics, attacking me as he did during the last four years. His tour of lies is only beginning. And he's returning to the national stage with the entire Republican party in tow.

Sadly, the onslaught of lies, rage, and blind ambition from the former disgraced president will continue. We know he won't stop. So we must stand side by side stronger than ever.

The simple truth is, he doesn’t believe in our democracy and he never has. It is up to us to defend it. So, let’s stand together for what is right. And true. For decency. And for our democracy.
