Hey John!
With vaccinations widely available as of this summer, I’m feeling cautiously optimistic about traveling to see my loved ones, catching some R&R, and getting to visit parts of the U.S. I’ve always wanted to see. Here’s the catch, though: I’m a DACA recipient.
For a long time, I didn’t know what my rights were while traveling, but our Legal Services team developed this handy guide to help folks with or without DACA travel safely and live our best lives.
Drawing from our own experiences and talking with our community, we developed this resource to clarify the rights undocumented folks have while traveling. Can we travel to Hawaiʻi and Alaska? What about Guam and la Isla del Encanto, Puerto Rico? Are flights different from traveling by car or bus?
Get answers to these domestic travel questions and more here.
This past year has reminded me of the joy of traveling somewhere for the first time, the importance of exposure to perspectives different from my own, and the value of going somewhere to see a loved one. While our immigration status may hold us back from many experiences, this is still one of the freedoms we have. So I hope I catch you from my next destination!
¡Pa’lante!
