I’m reaching out to talk about what’s happening here in Maine’s Second District. We’re just seven months into the off-year, and the GOP has already spent almost $1 million against me to put misleading TV ads in front of as many voters as possible, not to mention what they’ve run against me on digital and radio too.

I do my best to stay above the fray of partisan bickering, personal attacks, and negative campaigning. Instead, I stick to the issues that matter most to Mainers -- not the petty political games that get us nowhere.

But we’re up against some deep-pocketed dark money groups that are making early investments with the hopes of flipping this seat red because they know it’s one of the most competitive districts on the map. They want to replace me with the kind of hyper-partisanship we’ve all grown so tired of, which is why I’m coming to you now.

My team says our fundraising is not where it should be at this point of the month, and we need to raise $8,000 by Saturday night to stay on track. I’d be grateful if you could chip in whatever you’re able to today.

I’m not a career politician. I’m a proud veteran and civil servant who ran for Congress out of a desire to serve my community as a strong, independent voice in Washington. That same commitment is driving me as I run for re-election.
