To have any chance at halting the new wave of state voter suppression bills and preventing new ones from being enacted, we must demand that Congress pass both the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Good Trouble Vigil. Saturday July 17 nationwide. Sign up now >>

People For Member,

This Saturday marks one year since the passing of Congressman and civil rights hero John Lewis. Within that year, the Far Right’s attacks on voting rights have grown fiercer than at any time in modern memory, with a wave of racist state legislative attacks on the right to vote reminiscent of the Jim Crow era.

We’re mobilizing on Saturday July 17 with activist partners across the country for hundreds of in-person vigils in honor of John Lewis and to support the critical bills that he spent the latter part of his life working to get passed: the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. We need your help to sound the alarm about the danger facing our democracy if these two bills are not passed.

RSVP now to join a “Good Trouble Vigil for Democracy” event near you this Saturday. >>

Each event will honor Rep. Lewis’s legacy and bravery in the fight for voting rights with inspirational remarks by local faith, youth, and political leaders. If you attend, please make sure to follow both CDC and local public health guidelines regarding face masks and social distancing.

To have any chance at halting the new wave of state voter suppression bills and preventing new ones from being enacted, we must demand that Congress pass both the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. This is not an either-or discussion.

Join us this Saturday to honor John Lewis by keeping the fight for voting rights going strong. >>

Rep. Lewis always said that we need to get into good trouble, necessary trouble, to fight for what’s right. I hope you can join us this weekend to get into some good trouble in his name.

Thank you for everything you do,

Ben Jealous, President

Radical Right extremists are trying to turn back the clock on a century of advances in civil rights, women’s rights, workers’ rights, the social safety net and more… they’re waging an all-out assault on the fundamental pillars of our country – democracy, checks and balances, a fair and independent judicial branch, and core values like fairness, equality, and justice for all.

People For is fighting back every day with:

✔ Grassroots organizing
✔ Lobbying and advocacy
✔ Research and education
✔ Voter mobilization
✔ And more…

But we can’t do this vital work without the robust grassroots financial support of our members and activists.

Please help fund the fight for progress and stand against right-wing extremism with an urgently needed donation to People For today>>
