Pack your bags, as the Summer Reading Challenge has started and we are off on an adventure!
This year is in association with WWF for a very special nature-themed challenge that will inspire you to stand up for the planet!
Children are invited to read six books of their choice over the summer. As they read books they will explore all over Wilderville and help the Wild World Heroes solve the environmental problems they spot along the way.
There are stinky stickers and other awesome rewards to collect and all children who complete the challenge will get a medal and certificate.
To get you started on your reading adventure we have lots of animal and environmental themed books for you to borrow both from the library and from the BorrowBox app.
Highlighted titles include:
One Springy Day, Nick Butterworth. A delightful picture book in which Percy has to save the fox from a very embarrassing and sticky situation!
The Magic Ocean Slide, Emma Beswetherick and Anna Woodbine. Perfect for younger readers, this short chapter book follows best friends Katy, Cassie and Zia on a series of amazing adventures as they work together to save the planet.
For older readers, there’s How to Save the World with a Chicken and an Egg, Emma Shevah. Animal lovers Ivy and Nathaniel embark on a mission to make a difference to the world - even if that's one animal at a time.
My Name is River, Emma Rea. When Dylan overhears his dad say that their farm has been sold to a global pharmaceutical company, he decides he has to make them change their minds and sets off for Brazil, but things don't go at all to plan.
Non-fiction isn’t forgotten either with RSPB Nature Guide: Wildlife, Catherine Brereton. This trusty companion guide uncovers all the mysteries of the extraordinary wildlife that surrounds us with information about over 195 different animals, plants and other wildlife.
