Dales Community Litter Pick - Saturday 31 July!
litter

After a year of lockdown, things are slowly getting back to our ‘new normal’ and we have started the Sneinton Community Litter Pick once more.

*You are invited to come along to the next one on Saturday 31 July, meeting at the Dales Centre on Sneinton Dale at 11.15am for a 11.30am start.*

*If you can't make the July Litter Pick, why not pop along to a future one - they happen on the last Saturday of every month.*

It’s been lovely to join with many different people from across Dales Ward once a month to clean up one part of our community.

It’s a shame that Litter Picks are necessary but there is a satisfaction found in leaving a street of one of our green areas cleaner than we found it. *Everyone is welcome and we love to welcome new volunteers. All equipment is provided.*

As your Councillors, we are pleased to be out and about again doing regular ‘ward walks’ on a monthly basis in different parts of the area, in addition to the Litter Picks. We also regularly knock on doors to hear from residents about their concerns.

New community building in Sneinton

We are pleased to announce that the *old Sneinton Library building* on Sneinton Boulevard, which was due to be sold following the opening of the new Dales Centre Library, will now be kept as a new Community Centre, to be called *The Community Hub - Sneinton.*

*It will replace Sneinton Hermitage and Tracs Community Buildings* which are both in a poor state of repair and would need large sums of money to bring those buildings up to a decent standard. Both management committees have been working together to plan the move to the Old Library building in July, following upgrading of the toilets and a new kitchen being installed.

We are grateful to all the *volunteers and staff who run our community buildings in Sneinton and Bakersfield, you really serve the community through keeping these buildings open and welcoming.*

Traffic calming in Bakersfield
dales ward

*Residents of Parkdale Road have told us for years that some cars travel too fast on this road which has both a children’s park and a school on it. *

Many older residents also have to cross this important road and it *should not be made dangerous by a few cars travelling too fast*. Councillors have been putting aside funds for two years to enable a scheme involving a combination of speed bumps and a raised platform to be developed.

*Residents on Parkdale Rd will be consulted about the detail over the next couple of months* and we hope that the result will be a safer road for everyone to enjoy.

We know that this is not the only road where speeding is a concern for those living there. We will continue to listen to residents and put in appropriate measures as resources allow. We will also work with local police, asking them to use their powers to tackle speeding drivers.
