I’m Whitney, Abigail’s finance director.

If you’re anything like me, your email inbox is regularly inundated with fundraising emails with subject lines like “please, let me explain!” issuing desperate pleas for support.

I’m doing something different here — I want to write you an honest note before asking for your assistance.

My job is to raise funds to power our campaign (and since March 2020, I’ve done it while simultaneously providing virtual learning support for my three school-aged children!). You may feel like it's a long way from Election Day 2022, and I understand that. But this is not an ordinary race and this is not an ordinary election cycle.

* Abigail’s race in 2020 was one of the top 5 closest Congressional races in the country.

* The margin Democrats hold in the House is the narrowest it’s ever been since before the Civil War.

* National Republicans have already started running attack ads in our district.

* Multiple Republicans have launched their campaigns to defeat Abigail.

I grew up in the district and I’ve been on Team Spanberger since 2018, and I am certain 2022 is going to be the hardest election we’ve faced yet. There is a very real chance that control of the House could come down to Abigail’s seat.

Congressional races are expensive to run. Every election, both sides raise and spend more than the cycle before. And outside groups play an outsized role in this spending — outside groups spent over $15,000,000 in VA-07 in 2020!

Now, these groups are already spending. They’ve run TV ads attacking Abigail and they’re running ads online. They’re making it clear that this race is at the top of their list.

I know it seems like the election is far down the road, but contributing today helps put us in a strong position to win in 2022. Will you help our campaign succeed by contributing now?
