John,

Yesterday, we sent Gov. Greg Abbott and his enablers in the Texas legislature a message. And, as a proud Texas native, I couldn’t agree more with the sentiment:

Don't mess with Texas voters, y'all - VL

The photo above is from a grassroots rally we organized along with 19 other organizations in front of the Texas State Capitol yesterday. We were there to stand up to Gov. Abbott and Texas Republicans’ anti-democratic and un-American assault on our right to vote.

SB 1111, which was signed into law by Gov. Abbott, is a GOP-backed voter suppression bill that’s intended to discourage voters by threatening penalties over minor address discrepancies. It’s disproportionately aimed at young people, particularly students, and communities of color.

“Don’t mess with Texas” is a pretty well-known saying. Unfortunately, Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Legislature don’t seem too well acquainted with it -- because they’re still trying to mess with our right to vote.

Texas Republicans are trying to suppress our vote because they know that if young Latinxs turn out, they’ll lose.
