Reclaim Our Schools L.A. is a broad-based coalition anchored by the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE), LA Students Deserve, LAANE, and UTLA, and committed to transforming our public schools and ensuring a safe, racially just reopening of our schools for all students.
Friends,

As we look toward a new school year in the Fall, we find ourselves at a crossroads. Do we return to an era of public education that was underfunded and under siege by the forces of privatization? Or do we double down to reimagine public schools in Los Angeles as hubs of vibrant community life, democracy, and student enrichment?

With the pandemic exacerbating long standing racial inequities, COVID recovery plans must center communities of color and racial justice. Public schools, constrained by decades of underfunding, also face tremendous challenges ahead in educating and supporting students and families.

Students, families, school staff, and community leaders are demanding nothing short of transformative change that reaffirms the promise of public education. Community Schools are the vehicle for delivering on this promise.

That's why Reclaim Our Schools Los Angeles took a closer look at how Community Schools are a blueprint for transforming public education in Los Angeles with its recently published policy brief, "The Schools Students and Families Deserve ([link removed]) ." The brief includes a history of our work to sustain and expand the LAUSD Community Schools Initiative and also features interviews with folks on the ground keeping community schools going.
