We wanted to be sure you saw the breaking news: Another extremist Republican, former Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, has officially announced his campaign to represent California’s 8th District. Worse yet, he has huge name recognition in this community.

Donnelly is consistently the number two Republican in this district, and now that the incumbent is retiring, Donnelly is a huge threat to become the Republican nominee.

To say that Mr. Donnelly's history raises some red flags would be an understatement. His record is extreme, his behavior is reckless, and our community cannot let him back into elected office.

Here’s just a sampling of what he’s best known for:

» In 2005, he founded The California Minutemen Party -- a far-right, anti-immigrant movement that has been labelled an extreme nativist group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and has close ties to white supremacists.

» He called then-President Barack Obama a “secret Muslim and terrorist sympathizer."

» In 2011, he made headlines for harassing the Fresno State Student Body President because he didn’t agree that a DREAMer should hold that position.

Sending Tim to Washington wouldn’t just be irresponsible, it’d be a setback for our community.

The first 48 hours after his announcement are likely to be his most lucrative. It’s critical that we send a message that our grassroots team is stronger than the far-right forces lined up behind him. Can you chip in a donation to make sure we can fight back?
