Friend—
On this Indigenous People’s Day we wish you happiness and health.
But we do so burdened with the knowledge that Indigenous People
throughout the Americas continue to face oppression of their land,
their bodies and their culture at the hands of racist, colonialist
regimes.
Three years ago, we were proud that our Green Party nominees for
president and vice-president, Dr. Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka,
participated in civil disobedience at Standing Rock in allyship with
the water and climate protectors blocking the Dakota Access Pipeline.
A rallying cry of the #NoDAPL movement was “Water Is LIFE!” In 2019,
Indigenous People are facing a nightmare of fire and death as the
Amazon forest burns. They face harsh desert, a militarized border and
festering cages as the U.S. government persecutes them for seeking
asylum.
The Green Party’s candidates and platform are a testament to our
commitment to justice for Indigenous People everywhere. Will
you give $25 or more today so we can continue building the power
needed to break the duopoly cartel’s exploitation of Indigenous People
and their lands? Will you donate now so we have the resources to
support candidates from Indigenous communities and finalize the
formation of an Indigenous Caucus within our National
Committee?
Indigenous communities have fought on the front lines against
extractive, destructive capitalism for as long as there has been
capitalism. It’s only in recent decades that beneficiaries of
colonialism have come to realize this capitalist system threatens the
biosphere we all depend on. And so the Eco-Socialist
transformation we seek not only requires breaking the government’s
centuries-long domination of Indigenous People, but making space for
Indigenous People to lead in the fight to save our species from
self-inflicted environmental catastrophe.
There is no other national party in the United States that matches
the Green Party’s record of solidarity with Indigenous People, but we
have a long way to go and much to learn. Please
give today to support that work and we will keep fighting for justice
and liberation for all.
Happy Indigenous People’s Day From the Green Party of the United
States
p.s. Organizing in front-line communities takes planning, training
and resources. Done carelessly, it can re-victimize oppressed people
and deepen distrust. Will
you become a Monthly Sustainer today for $10 per month —or whatever
you can afford— to build the Green Party as an electoral voice for
Indigenous People?
