Greetings,
Thank you for staying in touch with me. As your Representative in Washington, I wanted to provide you with a brief update on the Expanded and Improved Child Tax Credit from the American Rescue Plan, which my colleagues in the House and I passed earlier this year.
Beginning Thursday, July 15, 2021, the IRS will begin to distribute Child Tax Credit payments (up to $300 per young child) to eligible families each month through December 2021.
|
The expanded and improved #ChildTaxCredit will be a lifeline for thousands of working and middle-class families across the district and throughout the nation. |
Payments will be deposited directly into eligible families' bank accounts using the information on file with the IRS, no further action is required. The IRS launched two new tools to help families manage Child Tax Credit payments:
Child Tax Credit Update Portal
Advance Child Tax Credit Eligibility Assistant
Important Note: The IRS will pay half the total credit amount (Child Tax Credits received from July-December 2021). You will claim the other half when you file your 2021 income tax return. These changes apply to tax year 2021 only.
Haven't filed a 2019 or 2020 tax return? Visit IRS.gov and utilize the Non-Filer Tool to sign-up.
