Hi John,

I know Election Day may feel like a long way away, and I’m sure it can be difficult to understand why we need to fundraise so frequently. So I thought it’d be helpful to take a moment and explain why the off-year is so important for our campaign. But in case you don’t have the time to read this whole message, I’ll give you the abridged version first.

To make a long story short: ME-02 is the reddest district represented by a Democrat in the House, and based on how much the GOP establishment is already spending here, we know it’s going to be expensive to keep it blue. But our finance numbers so far this month have slowed, and we’re working to pick up the pace so that we stay on track.

We need to raise $11,000 by Saturday night to reach our mid-month target. Can you chip in right now to make sure we have the resources we need to re-elect Jared and take on whatever the GOP throws our way?

I’m Jared’s finance director, so I can tell you that the off-year is all about building up resources, growing our team, and spreading our message early.

None of that comes cheap. We’ll need to make sure we have the necessary funds to keep Jared in office, because this is an ultra-competitive district that will continue to be the target of increasing levels of outside cash. In fact, GOP groups have already spent nearly $1 million in attack ads against Jared this year, and we know more attacks are on the way.

At this point in the race, everything builds on itself -- if we falter now, it’ll mean that we’ll continue faltering down the line. As a grassroots campaign, we’re counting on this team to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Now that I’ve laid it all out for you, I hope you’ll consider chipping in even just a few dollars today to help us close our $11,000 gap and grow a campaign that can and will win here in ME-02.
