Texas state legislators are on the run after anti-LGBTQ Gov. Greg Abbott called a special session to force a horrific voter suppression bill through the legislature. Make no mistake: this bogus bill is about preventing marginalized communities from voting.
Our pro-equality leaders are fighting back in one of the only ways they can: by dropping everything and leaving the state, denying the Republican majority the ability to call a quorum. Out LGBTQ Representative Celia Israel even DELAYED her wedding to preserve the right to vote!! Yet Gov. Abbott has threatened, “Once they step back into the state, they will be arrested.”
But Rep. Israel is defiant, saying: "It’s how strongly I feel about my job and how strongly I feel about this moment in time and history, to stand up strong, not just for Texas but for the whole country."
And it is not just in Texas that LGBTQ legislators are risking their careers and freedoms to protect the right to vote. Out LGBTQ Georgia Representative Park Cannon was arrested for protesting when that state passed an equally restrictive voter suppression bill earlier this year.
Our pro-equality legislators are making huge sacrifices to preserve our rights. We can't let them stand alone. If you're ready to defend out leaders who are fighting to preserve our rights, and to elect more of them, make a donation today. We can't do this work without you. [[link removed]]
