It's time to complete the work

,

This morning I qualified to run for a second term as Mayor to serve the people of New Orleans for four more years. Here's why -- I'm battle-tested. I've proven I can take on major challenges head-on - from making tough calls to fighting for our fairshare. Pandemics leave room for major changes - we have 3 to 5 years to become the best city in the United States, and tackle infrastructure, equity, and public safety challenges. If we stop our progress now, we'll be right back where we started.

Since day one, I have been picking up cans that have been kicked down the road for far too long. It's time to complete the work. Serving New Orleans for two decades starting as a community leader, City Councilmember, and Mayor, I have consistently delivered results. I want to continue to serve during these critical times to deliver even more.

During my first term, we made big changes to improve residents’ safety, public health, and quality of life. Our many first-term achievements include:

Pandemic Response

  • Developing COVID policies that saved lives, moving New Orleans from a hotspot to a national leader in pandemic response
  • Spearheading an unprecedented effort to deliver meals to residents in need at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic

City Finances

  • Forging the Fair Share Agreement with state leaders to ensure more tax revenue generated in New Orleans stays in New Orleans
  • Improving the City's credit rating through prudent management of City finances
  • Redistributing the parks millage to provide more funding for City Park and NORD

Public Safety

  • Creating the Office of Gun Violence Prevention and the Violent Crime Abatement Investigation Team
  • Establishing the Office of Youth and Families
  • Passing a tax on short-term rentals and increasing enforcement of STR regulations

Health

  • Providing health care services to over 4,000 New Orleans residents

Infrastructure

  • Keeping infrastructure projects moving forward across every City Council district in spite of the pandemic
  • Securing a $500 million bond to fund infrastructure improvements

In my second term, I will continue to focus on promoting public safety, revitalizing the city’s economy, repairing and modernizing our infrastructure, expanding affordable housing options, and improving residents’ quality of life. I am committed to making New Orleans the best city it can be for all residents.
