OPEN 10 steps to preparedness A course created by FEMA, for community-based organizations that want to prepare for disasters. This specific offering will be tailored for senior care providers, facilities, and organizations, but all organizations are welcome to attend.
This class helps organizations:
* Identify Risks
* Learn essential preparedness actions
* Locate available resources to execute preparedness actions

Participants will learn about preparing for organizational disruption during a disaster or emergency, and 10 actions they can take to make their organization more resilient. Join us!

** New Emergency Rental Assistance Case Study: Illinois Housing Development Authority’s 2020 Emergency Rental Assistance Program
------------------------------------------------------------
NLIHC’s newest case study ([link removed]) on Illinois Housing Development Authority’s 2020 Emergency Rental Assistance program illustrates how emergency rental assistance programs that are designed to be simple and accessible facilitate timely distribution of critical emergency funds to low-income households disproportionally impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, the program provided $230.6 million in assistance between August and December 2020, distributing nearly twice as much as the other top five largest statewide emergency rental assistance programs in the country.

The case study provides a quick overview of the program and key strategies adopted by program administrators to prioritize getting funds out the door quickly and effectively. Simplified documentation requirements with centralized application processing, flexible program design, and critical partnerships with community organizations were essential program-design features to serve households most at-risk of housing instability. The case study also illustrates strategies that administrators are carrying forward into their 2021 Rental Payment Program ([link removed]) using U.S. Treasury Emergency Rental Assistance funding.

House Proposes Significant Funding Increases for Housing Programs in FY22 Spending Bill
------------------------------------------------------------
The House Appropriations Committee released on July 11 its fiscal year (FY) 2022 draft spending bill ([link removed]) , which would provide a $6.8 billion increase to HUD’s budget from FY21. If enacted, the House proposal ([link removed]) would provide substantial federal investments in affordable homes and increase the availability of housing assistance to families with the greatest needs. Overall, the House spending bill would fund HUD at $56.5 billion, an increase of $6.8 billion above FY21 and $314 million below the president’s 2022 budget request. ** New Resources Available for FY 2019/2020 YHDP NOFO
------------------------------------------------------------
The deadline to apply for the FY 2019/2020 Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) is less than one month away. Applications are due on July 27, 2021 to Grants.gov.
YHDP is an initiative designed to address systemic responses to youth homelessness and significantly reduce the number of youth experiencing homelessness. Through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), HUD will award approximately $145 million in up to 50 participating communities (eight of which will be rural). All communities are encouraged to consider applying.

* Rural Tools: These tools are designed to help communities determine if their application for YHDP should be identified as rural.
+ Rural CoCs for FY 2019/2020 YHDP NOFO ([link removed]) : This file lists all Continuums of Care (CoCs) that are considered rural for the YHDP FY 2019/2020 competition if the application covers the entire geographic area of the CoC
+ FY 2019/2020 YHDP Rural Area Worksheet ([link removed]) : Applicants should use this tool if they are considering applying for less than the entire area covered by the CoC

Register Today: CARES Act Virtual Conference 2021 - July 27-28, 2021

The CARES Act makes $5 billion in Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) response funds available to CDBG grantees, $3.96 billion in Emergency Solutions Grants Coronavirus (ESG-CV) response funds available to ESG grantees, and $65 million in Housing Opportunities for Persons With HIV/AIDS Coronavirus (HOPWA-CV) response funds available to HOPWA grantees. All coronavirus funding must be used to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus pandemic.

This two-day CARES Act Virtual Conference 2021 is a combination of CDBG-CV, HOPWA-CV, and ESG-CV inspired topics related to the implementation of their respective CARES Act funding. This conference is intended for all grantees that have applied for and received their allocation of CARES Act funding in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

What is CE? CE is a triage process to connect individuals experiencing homelessness to necessary resources. It is a federally mandated program that recognizes communities rarely have enough resources. There are three main goals of CE: prioritize the most vulnerable, streamline the experience for providers and unsheltered people, and provide data to inform decisions regarding the structure of and need for services.
