John,

Over the 4th of July weekend, nearly 190 people were killed and over 500
were injured due to a surge of gun violence across the U.S.

What’s worse is that right now, 2021 is on track to surpass 2020 as the
deadliest year of gun violence, which itself was the worst in decades.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, as of July 11, there have been 350
mass shootings in 2021, nearly two every day this year.

We cannot be silent about the need to take action and demand new gun laws
and we cannot wait for the next horrifying mass shooting to act.

We know there are solutions to this national nightmare, ones supported by
the majority of Americans and President Biden, and we need your help to
send a message to our own communities about one of the most obvious ones;
banning assault weapons.

In 2020, gun sales were higher than ever, and assault weapons are the
firearm of choice for people looking to commit mass murder.

These deadly weapons have no place in our communities or on our streets.

While not all of the deaths and injuries over the 4th of July weekend
involved assault weapons, we know that they are designed for one purpose:
killing a lot of people in a matter of seconds.

President Biden has said it himself, “Assault weapons — military-style
firearms designed to fire rapidly — are a threat to our national
security, and we should treat them as such.”

These guns tear our communities apart.

While it's easy to feel powerless seeing horrifying, senseless shootings
taking place in our own communities and across the United States, one
thing we can do to have an impact right now is to show our community that
we go beyond thoughts and prayers by demanding action on gun violence.

We can, and must bring an end to gun violence. Every day our leaders fail
to act, more innocent lives are lost.

Thank you for showing your support,

— Molly
