2021 was a cornerstone year for the climate action and environmental justice policy in the Washington State legislature.
We are celebrating these wins, but there is still work to do.
We know that climate change is moving faster than we can act. We still need bold policies for green infrastructure and to hold corporate polluters accountable. And we need to ensure Black, Indigenous, and communities of color will not be overburdened with the effects of pollution and toxic waste sites.

With the Evergreen Future platform WCV launched a multi-year effort to inspire elected officials to take bold steps on climate action, environmental justice, and public health.
This year, we saw bills prioritizing racial, environmental, and economic justice pass the legislature. Some historic bills that we helped to pass into law include the Healthy Environment for All Act which codified environmental justice principles into law, a Clean Fuel Standard, and the Climate Commitment Act.
This year has proven that transformational wins are possible when we all come together and hold our leaders accountable. We must build on these wins.
