In my role at the Children's Defense Fund, I get to witness and report on the impact that our CDF Freedom Schools® program has on the lives of children and families every year--and these numbers never cease to amaze me.
I wanted to make sure you didn't miss the email below, because I know you're going to be impressed, too. More than 150,000 children have experienced the power of the CDF Freedom Schools program, and we're nowhere near done yet. I hope you'll join us in celebrating and supporting this incredible program.

More than 150,000 children (K12) have had the CDF Freedom Schools® experience, and the CDF Freedom Schools model has expanded to 182 program sites nation-wide since 1995.

Last year, more than 95% of the children we served were non-white.
--
77% of the K-12 "scholars" we served--more than 85% of whom come from families with low incomes--avoided the average two-months' worth of summer learning loss suffered by children from low-income homes not participating in summer enrichment.

98% of parents saw increased confidence in their children after they spent summer 2020 in the CDF Freedom Schools program.

Due to our intentional recruitment of program staff with backgrounds similar to the youth they serve, 92% of the college-aged Servant Leader Interns who delivered our curriculum at CDF Freedom Schools sites were non-white and more than 1 in 5 were attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Among the other benefits observed, children self-reported that CDF Freedom Schools helped them regulate their emotions and behaviors, empathize with others, communicate and listen, negotiate conflict well, and make constructive choices.
