I’m writing to let you know about one of President Biden’s most important
judicial nominees yet, who has her Judiciary Committee hearing TODAY and
is almost guaranteed to come under attack by the Far Right.

Myrna Pérez, nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second
Circuit, is a widely renowned expert on the right to vote and directs the
Brennan Center's Voting Rights and Elections Program.

Our right to vote is under assault with racist voter suppression laws in
the states, and exacerbating the problem, our federal courts now reflect
Trump and McConnell’s four-year crusade to stack the bench with far-right
ideologues, including many anti-voter judges.

It’s critical that we undo the harm done by Trump and McConnell to our
judicial branch by confirming fair-minded Biden nominees – especially a
stellar nominee like Myrna Pérez who understands the central importance of
the right to vote in our democracy.

In addition to nominating one third of the current Supreme Court, Donald
Trump also nominated a full 30% of active appeals court judges!^[1]

Trump nominated HALF of the active judges who now sit on the 13-seat
Second Circuit. With three current vacancies, we have the chance to shift
the balance of this powerful court by confirming fair-minded jurists who
respect democracy and will uphold Americans’ constitutional rights.^[2]

Myrna Pérez is such a nominee. She would also be the first Latina to sit
on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals since now-Supreme Court Justice
Sonia Sotomayor. Between that and her professional background and record,
having important perspectives represented on the Second Circuit would be a
major win for diversity on the bench.

Now more than ever our judiciary needs Pérez’s deep understanding of the
law and its impact on peoples’ lives; the Senate must confirm her right
